Happy Easter everyone!
Before we head off for a well-deserved break, we wanted to share some of the things that have been happening in Room 9 since midterm.
We all became published authors this term after Fighting Words came to deliver our copies of the Story Seeds project. Before Christmas, we had taken part in a Zoom story writing class and wrote the final chapter of a story in the collection, along with other local schools.
It even inspired two students to write, illustrate and publish their own book!
We were very lucky to have a student teacher with us for the past three weeks – Ms. Conifrey brought art monsters to life with this lesson.
We had our final session with Deirdre from School Completion last week which was mighty fun – I think our tower building skills might need work!
And of course, we couldn’t leave Easter come and go without a bit of Easter art – we created these pinchpots from clay, planned a spring design for them and painted them in bright colours. Hopefully the Easter bunny comes!
I hope you all have a wonderful break and get out and about in the (hopefully) lovely weather 🙂
We’ve made it to midterm! It’s been a busy term here in 2nd Class A.
We celebrated New Year’s when we came back by creating some New Year’s Eve Skylines – this was a collaborative effort and it really paid off!
We were learning about the Arctic and Antarctic and really enjoyed putting ourselves in the shoes of some of the different explorers who went there. We also had a look at some of the animals that live in the South Pole and the penguins were definitely our fav!
In February, we welcomed the spring by making some St Brigid’s Crosses.
We’ve been really lucky to have Deirdre from School Completion in the last few weeks, helping us learn about our feelings – we’ve been putting them into practice and trying not to bubble over!
We finished the term with some Science experiments, investigating how water travels through plants using celery and food dye.
Our last experiment involved making a water wheel to investigate how water can generate energy. It didn’t work the first time, but we’re great scientists here in Room 9 and we perservered and got it going in the end!
Well done to all the boys and girls in 2nd Class A for all their hard work this term. I hope ye get a good rest and am looking forward to seeing you all after the break! 🙂
Term 1 News
Merry Christmas parents of 2nd Class A!
We’ve made it to the end of term, thanks to the hard work and dedication of so many people in the school, and want to show off some of the brilliant work that we’ve been working on in Room 9 🙂
We had great fun with Procedure Writing in October, writing procedures to explain how to make a crisp sandwich – very tasty!
We made some wonderful witchy Halloween art before the midterm – you would have seen them flying home!
In November and December, we were really lucky to have had Liz in with Creativity in the Classroom, who guided the children through an exploration of clay. They made some really incredible sculptures and displayed some wonderful artistic ability.
Joanne has had us all up dancing on Fridays!
St Pat’s were kind enough to come in with the FAI cup as well this month after their win against Bohs – come on ye Saints!!
We finished a great book this term, called ‘The Summer I Robbed a Bank’, by David O’Doherty. The children really enjoyed listening to it and reviewed the book at the end so expect some recommendations over Christmas!
Lastly, we really enjoyed the carol singing last week – it brought a much needed bout of Christmas cheer!
Thank you all so much for your support throughout the year, and to the boys and girls for giving such a trojan effort!
Wishing you all a safe and Merry Christmas, Ms. Gorry 🙂
